It's an article of faith out here that "values voters" delivered Ohio for President Bush and that Ohio, in turn, assured his re-election.
After helping get out the vote for President Bush in November, the Rev. John Hays of Jersey Baptist Church in Pataskala, Ohio, says, 'We're watching and saying, 'OK, Mr. President, are you going to follow through?'' So now, says the Rev. John Hays, the president has some promises to keep.
"Don't forget the people who were there for you," said Mr. Hays, senior pastor of Jersey Baptist Church in the rolling exurbs of east-central Ohio. "We're watching and saying, 'OK, Mr. President, are you going to follow through?' "
As Mr. Bush prepares for the State of the Union speech on Wednesday, social and religious conservatives – emboldened by their role in helping secure his second term – are demanding the White House move full-speed ahead on the appointment of conservative judges, a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage and limits on abortion.
