Mormon teens start day with faith classes in McKinney

It's not as if Jenna Reeder doesn't have anything else to do, given that she's president of the senior class at McKinney High School, serves on student council, and takes dual credit courses from Collin College.

But at 5:45 a.m., five days a week, she's in yet another classroom, where she studies the Bible and other sacred texts with fellow youth of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They'll read, discuss, sing and pray for an hour, and the sun still won't be up. That's OK with Jenna.

"It's the best way to start my day," she said. "I feel the spirit of the Holy Ghost, and I'm able to carry that with me."

The Mormon population continues to grow in Texas and elsewhere, thanks partly to conversions, but more to large families and a focused, rigorous approach to practicing the faith that tends to keep people in the fold.
