Fact Sheet: Split State Decisions on "Culture War" Issues
Stem cell research was one of several "culture war" issues that appeared on some state ballots in the November 2006 midterm election. Missouri voters narrowly approved a measure that would ensure the legality of embryonic stem-cell research in the state.

Survey: Pragmatic Americans Liberal and Conservative on Social Issues
A Summer 2006 Pew Forum poll found that a majority of Americans (56%) believe it is more important to conduct stem cell research than to preserve embryos. Public awareness of the issue has not increased over the past year despite the protracted battle between President Bush and Congress over increased funding for stem cell research that culminated July 19 in the first veto of the Bush administration.

Quick Answers: John Green Addresses Religious Dynamic in Stem Cell Politics
Values and morality, often grounded in religious belief, have shaped the political contours of the stem cell research debate. As Congress and President Bush take up the issue, Forum Senior Fellow John Green answered questions about the religious dynamic of stem cell politics.

Fact Sheet: Religion and Stem Cell Research
In August 2005, the Pew Forum released poll data indicating a steady increase in support for stem cell research since 2002. The report showed increases among evangelical Protestants, mainline Protestants and Catholics. Roughly half (52%) of opponents of stem cell research said their religious beliefs were the biggest influence on their thinking (compared to only 7% of supporters).
